Announced in late September as a viable alternative to the disappearance of Big Day Out, we finally have an initial lineup for Auckland City Limits.
Originally claiming the bill would surface less than a week after the festival was announced, it's been over a month; but here we are.
The buzz sweeping the rumor mill that Kendrick would likely headline owing to his concurrent touring schedule in Australia have now been confirmed, as have The National as a fellow drawcard. Also notably on the program are Californian indie rockers Cold War Kids, as well as Fuck That's Delicious host and larger than life Queens rapper Action Bronson. Folk and country also feature prominently, perhaps owing to the festival's Texan roots. Sturgill Simpson, Grace Potter, and Lord Huron round out the international acts.
The lineup also boasts a strong collection of homegrown talent, including up and comer Maala, Auckland indie pop darlings The Naked and Famous, The Phoenix Foundation, and local hip-hop stalwart Che Fu. That might not even be the half of it, with today being the first announcement of what is supposedly a 40 act lineup.
Despite the recent loss of SoulFest and the long impending death of Big Day Out; Echo Festival, Laneway, and now Auckland City Limits, are keeping the Auckland festival sphere in good hands. Auckland City Limits happens on March 19th at Western Springs Stadium.
