Bloody Mary : : Cocktail of the Week

Ingredients

- 45 ml 42 Below Vodka

- 90 ml Tomato Juice

- 15 ml Lemon Juice

- 15 ml Worcestershire Sauce

- 15 ml Tabasco Sauce

- 15 ml Shiraz

 

Method

- Fill a highball glass with ice

- Add tomato juice and all other ingredients. Stir.

- Top with tomato juice until full, then stir again.

- Garnish with celery, lemon, salt and pepper.

 

 

Backstory

Little is known about the origin of this mighty hangover cure.

 

Rumour has it that while working at the old New York Bar in Paris, bartender Fernand Patriot accidentally stumbled across the classic concoction. The humble tomato, vodka, and lemon recipe has since been remodeled and re-worked time and time again.

 

I’m a big fan of the classic tomato juice, vodka, Tabasco, Worcestershire, lemon juice, red wine, and more vodka – garnished with a bush of celery and lemon, maybe some olives. Best stirred, some say the Bloody Mary's roots can be traced back to Hollywood, but others claim it got its name from the Chicago Bar, Bucket of Blood, where 'Mary' used to serve.

 

Who knows. All I know is that this is a great counter to the classic Sunday morning hangover. Bloody Sunday.
