Mention the phrase “health buzz” and my mind will almost definitely go into a flurry of health food recipes and kick-ass workouts that would make fitspo instagram accounts look weak. Not that I actually follow through with any of this, but to balance out my very early Sunday morning Queen St McDonald's feast, some sort of lean feed was definitely on the cards. Wilder and Hunt was perfect for this. All organic, dubbing themselves as “curators of real food”, W+H made me feel like I was doing my insides some good.
Off the bat, you can tell naturalists had a bit of a touch on the design of the place - open spaces, light wooden tables, sunlight beaming in through the full glass front. White and crisp. I felt like I was eating in a cloud. Shelves stacked with endless supplies of super-foods, think of anything you can do with coconut from water to flakes, they sell it. Recipe books about paleo-diets scattered across the back room made for a homely atmosphere. Casually dressed staff welcome you with a decent knowledge of the incredibly uncommon ingredients used in their food, telling me there’s no sugar in what I’m sure can’t be healthy treats. And everything is so neatly presented, everything feels fresh from the word go.
Health food proudly housed in the clean glass cabinet, reflecting the all glass exterior, you can also pick off a small menu on the back wall. Craving a granola bowl I jumped at the opportunity to pair it with coconut yoghurt. For only $10 you can have granola, nuts and seeds, topped with coconut yoghurt and fresh berries, this dish is something you should try, it will make your insides glow. One thing I regret was not trying one of their hand made paleo-burgers, or cakes, smiling at you from the cabinet; or any of their fresh juices, but there is so much to pick from that I feel like I missed out. Making me only want to go back. Even their coffee is Kokako – organic to a tee.

So if you’re ever sitting around, thinking you spend too much time eating shitty food (I know I do), take a pop down to Wilder and Hunt just off Ponsonby Road on Mackelvie Street. This addition to the chain started in St Heliers also has a pretty awesome back of house web based system, letting you in on recipe secrets, and boosting awareness of nutritious convenience food since ages ago. Im glad someone is doing something like this, my body needs it. A big two thumbs up to Wilder and Hunt from me.
