Today I am going to talk about what menswear is in this day and age – not the classics and not what your Grandpa wore; I am talking about the new age ‘trend’ based menswear wearers, the things you see on blogs and at Pitti Uomo, what Mr. Porter is stocked full of and what you probably cannot afford unless you can fork out two thousand dollars on a suit.
Menswear in general is on the rise. Growth in the industry is apparent, with new brands launching more than ever (whether it be street wear or menswear), more blogs going online where their content is very clothing driven and more men becoming conscious of what they are wearing. A well-dressed man’s wardrobe should consist of a few suits along with formal shirts, a selection of ties and shoes as well as casual wear that is comfortable yet appropriate for the days off – but that is not enough for the new modern man.
This spark in menswear has encouraged men to be confident in what they wear and to break the rules. They no longer live within the confinements of just two suits or having to wear socks with your shoes. Males are generally dressing better as a whole, causing others to want and need to stand out from the crowd. Not wanting to be associated as a boring corporate nor a hipster, they have found a middle ground which is the beautiful birth of #menswear. These gents are getting all out ballsy and rocking three-piece suits, double-breasted suits, tassels on loafers, cuffed tailored trousers, slicking back their hair, tying four in hand knotted ties, wearing loud pocket squares – the list goes on but hopefully you kind of have an image of the people I am describing in mind, if not please refer to the image below:

These guys might not even need a suit for their work but it sure beats sneakers and t-shirts. These men are daring and want to look good in unsuspecting times – they don’t give a shit about what you think about them (well, they probably do). Currently in the realm of menswear as a whole, they are the slickest of the slick – gentlemen who dress with no boundaries. They are better than your basics, better than your long-sleeve printed tees, better than your Nike Roshes, better than your Barkers suit – they are the top dogs.

The new age of menswear representatives blog, Instagram, write, go bespoke and probably look better on their worst day than you do on your best day. #Menswear has been a label to use for them, since as you probably guessed they insert that tag when posting, which makes fair sense but I guess no one could come up with a more appropriate label.
A final question, why wouldn’t you want to be like one of these guys? They are currently at the forefront of menswear, changing the game and bringing back the dapperness of manhood that men have lost ever since the 60’s and 70’s. These are the guys we will be thanking for bringing back some sort of solidarity for men to be confident in their attire and to not be confined by rules, by society and by what other people think - if you want to wear a suit you wear a suit, if you want to wear a tie because you feel like it just do it; these men do and they’re being noticed in all the right ways. They are believers in better living, a belief that extends to their houses, cars, family, occupations and wardrobe – live well while dressed well.
