Young franco is a Brisbane based producer who has been making beats at the ripe old age of 20. According to his Facebook page Motez thinks that Franco is “His Majesty Andre on steroids, a breath of fresh air, every track is awesome and unique, 5/5″. Since we like Motez we sat down with Franco and talked records, mistakes on stage as well his relationship with the elder Franco.
Do you record hunt? if so where and what is your greatest find?
In Brisbane there is a few cool places- Butter Beats has an awesome stockpile of the stuff I'm into. Lots of old soul, jazz, disco and hip hop records. Rehab Records was also one of my favourites but it recently closed down. It's weird, but I hate and try to avoid record stores with snobby muso staff, who think they know everything about music. I feel like it should be more about the appreciation of good music rather than a competition of who has the biggest collection.
What got you into beat making so young?
I was really inspired by heaps of different types of music. I loved watching dudes from Brisbane like Sampology, DJ Butcher and old school hip hop dudes like Premo, Pete Rock and DJ Shadow do their thing. I wanted to do my own thing and I guess that's kinda how it started
Best/crazeist/worst/most epic tour experience?
I think when I went B2B with the Bondax dudes at The Bowler Club in Brisbane that was pretty fkn rad. They tweeted me a few days before saying they play my song "Brooklyn" out heaps which was awesome. They are such a huge influence so I was pretty stoked about that.
Believe it or not but musicians are human beings, How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
Hahaha yes, musicians have feelings too :'). Sometimes if it's small I can usually correct myself relatively quickly but if something happens like a link cable not working and the music cutting out sometimes you need to get on the mic and be like "Yo I f*ked up" and start again. I think sometimes people actually like that because it brings variety and lets you build the vibe again.
What is your idea of absolute misery? and also your idea of absolute happiness?
Working in a job you hate and surrounding yourself with people you hate would probably be up there. I don't know about absolute happiness! Is there such a thing? I guess being happy with the kind of person you are and the way you treat people is pretty important.
Which franco brother do you feel closer to? Do you share james francos social media habits?
Haha I think James Franco is killing it at the moment, his social media game is so on point and he's a very smart dude. He does so much in such a short time.
