The Best Tracks of the Week : : 8th May 2016

I can’t keep up. It’s simply not possible – on May 6th alone, we got:

James Blake, Death Grips, Anohni, Kaytranada, White Lung, LUH, Julianna Barwick, Skepta, as well as a new single (and LP release date) from the one-and-only Radiohead.

This was also after yet another riveting marketing scheme from Thom Yorke and co. which culminated in the release of their stellar lead single, “Burn the Witch”. And also before Chance the Rapper announced the release date of Chance 3, his highly anticipated third mixtape. Sheesh.

Blake’s The Colour in Anything is gorgeous, and though I still miss the uniqueness of his s/t debut, most listeners are championing the record as his best yet. And, at the time of writing, I am bracing myself for the release of LP9 tomorrow morning. It’s been a good couple of weeks for music; here’s to another one ahead, courtesy of Chance and those talented folk from the UK.

[Note: Half of the records listed above will be considered in next week’s edition, as there’s only so much music one person can absorb in two days.]

5. Told Slant – “Tsunami”

4. Radiohead – “Burn the Witch”

3. Anohni – “4 Degrees”

2. Death Grips – “Ring a Bell”

1. James Blake – “Choose Me”

Honourable Mention:

Mitski – “Happy”

James Blake
