– Art galleries are pretty cool.
“Yeah, but they’re kind of like zoos, though. In a perfect world, there’d be no need for art galleries or zoos. Every artist would get paid enough. Every artwork would have the right amount of exposure. Every street paved with the right amount, and fit, of creative work. There would be no need to have this haven of a space where art is ‘protected’ and curated. All existing space - urban and rural - would be conducive to art. Art is meant to roam free and unbounded, like the lion who is meant to be roaming the African wilds and not bounded by the zoo spaces.”
“Provided the lion is an African lion, of course.”
– You just walked past that painting.
– That painting. It’s Colin McCahon’s famous work. A national treasure. You didn’t even notice it.
“For real? That’s insane!”
– Uhuh. Looks like we’ve all got a long way to go before we become ‘a perfect world’.
