Grill Meats Beer’s newest addition to the menu, the Karmaggedon Burger, is a subtle contrast to their otherwise conventionally rugged approach to food. It's not for the food itself: a tantalising, almost intimidating mix of Karma Cola-marinated pulled pork, a beef patty, jalapenos, cheese, pickles and lettuce with a hint of sauce, but rather for the more humanitarian focus the burger promotes.
Unlike the usual meat-fuelled array of dishes you’ll find at Grill Meats Beer, the Karmageddon burger is made for a dual purpose - to raise money for Karma Cola’s own The Karma Cola Foundation, and to give those lucky enough to try it the perfect mix of tang, sweet and spice under the guise of a good ol’ fashioned cheeseburger.
The good people at Karma Cola have been teaming up with different restaurants around New Zealand and the UK to create a group of Karma Cola inspired burgers, this one of which is probably the best thing I’ve eaten in awhile. Sure, I’m a student with a relatively unrefined palate, but I’m pretty sure it can be unanimously agreed that you cannot go wrong when using the freshest ingredients and the very best produce.
Regardless of the calorie count (let’s not be those people), you’ll rest easy knowing that for every burger you buy, $1 goes into the Karma Cola Foundation, supporting cola nut farmers in Sierra Leone where the company sources its produce from.
Trepidation aside, cola and burgers really are a heavenly combination - even when mixed together so literally. With both a cause to support and a beautiful burger to demolish, what are you waiting for?
The Karmageddon Burger will only be available at Grill Meats Beer (227 Cuba Street) until the 30th November.
