Two days ago, Zane Lowe had the opportunity to sit down with one-man wrecking crew, Chicago-born Chance the Rapper, who's found himself firmly planted in the spotlight after popping up on some of the greatest tracks this year.
Post teaming up with Kanye to dominate a verse on “Ultralight Beam,” Chance again recently made a name for himself (for like the third time), with his album “Coloring Book.” If this isn't yet ringing bells, you might recognise his dulcet tones from "All My Friends," that one track which was way overplayed this past summer.
From the outside looking in, it seemed Kanye was taking Chance under his wing; a mentor-prodigy relationship, and Kanye is seemingly doing a lot for Chance's development. But as more info surfaces, it's starting to look like Chance is the one having an effect on Kanye. The way Chance talks about "Ye" it seems he looks up to him like a mentor, but there is more to this than meets the eye. In this interview, Zane becomes the first to unlock what Chance had developed while working with Kanye - something that is going to continue in their upcoming mixtape, “Good Ass Job”.
Notably, Chance sneaks in saying he “hated” Famous when he first heard it - and drops something pretty special on Waves. Social media speculates Chance's OG version may be better than the original. Watch the full interview, below, to decide of yourself. All we know is that this kid is no longer in the category of, “watch this space.” He's now firmly in the spotlight.
